Frequently asked questions

When is a monthly plan worth it?

When the money saved on the percentage fee is more than the monthly fee. With SumUp, that's about £2,714 a month of card sales. With Tide, it depends on your average sale. At £20 it's about £2,197 for Premium and £2,534 for Essential.

Why does the average sale matter?

A fixed fee per transaction, like Tide's 5p or 3p, costs proportionally more on small sales. Lots of £3 coffees cost more in fixed fees than a few £100 sales.

Why is Lopay so low?

Its 0.79% rate comes with free payouts on Thursdays only. Next-day payouts are 0.99%, and instant payouts are 1.79%. These rates apply to UK consumer Visa and Mastercard. Other cards cost 1% more.

Why isn't Dojo in the calculator?

Dojo has a 12-month contract and isn't a no-contract option. Its rate is 1.2% blended, plus 5p per authorisation and 50p per refund (under £100k annual turnover). See our comparison.

Is this financial advice?

No. It's general information based on published rates. Check each provider's current terms.
