How we rank card readers
No links here are currently paid; some may earn us commission in future. How we make money
Where our data comes from
- Only each provider's official UK pages (pricing, hardware and FAQ pages), linked next to every figure.
- Every figure is dated ("checked 19 Oct 2026"). Where we can't verify a number on an official page, we leave it out.
- Prices exclude VAT unless the provider states otherwise.
How we rank
- Eligibility: we only rank options with no long-term contract. Options with 12-month contracts (Dojo, Tide Premium) are shown for reference.
- Main measure: estimated monthly cost = plan fee + (takings × % rate) + (transactions × fixed fee), at stated takings levels.
- Assumptions: in-person UK consumer cards, and a £20 average sale where a fixed per-transaction fee applies. Hardware and VAT are listed separately.
- "Best for" labels: one written rule per label, shown next to the label on the comparison page.
- Not scored: reliability, support quality and app features. We haven't tested devices, and we don't claim to have.
How we make money
Right now, we don't earn anything from this site: no links are paid. We are applying to affiliate programmes run by some of the providers we cover. If we're accepted, links to that provider may earn us a fee when you sign up, at no extra cost to you. We'll label those links "Ad" and update this page. Commission will never change a ranking, a label or a quiz result, and providers that don't pay us are included on the same terms. See our affiliate disclosure.
What we don't do
- No paid placements or sponsored rankings.
- No credit cards, loans or other credit products.
- No made-up reviews or star ratings.
Frequently asked questions
Do providers pay to be listed?
No. Providers are listed whether or not they pay us.
How do you handle price changes?
We date every figure and update pages when we re-check. If a provider announces a change, like Tide's 1 Dec 2026 fee rise, we flag it.
Can I suggest a correction?
Yes, please. Use our suggestions page and choose “An improvement to the site”, telling us which page and figure looks wrong. Simon reads every suggestion personally. You can also check any figure against the linked official pages.
Spotted a mistake?
If a fee, feature or ranking looks wrong, email hello@newbusinesshq.co.uk or use our suggestions page. We check and correct errors quickly.
